The system automatically detected any BTC sent to the burn address and minted/sent the correct amount of XCP to the address which burned the BTC.

yup...similar, only difference is that nothing was escrowed in the system... only after BTC was burned was the XCP created and credited to the correct address... and the burn used a diminshing scale to encourage burning earlier.... early on I believe it was like 1:1.5 ration... burn 1 BTC earn 1,500 XCP... by the end of the burn the ratio was 1:1... so burn 1 BTC you get 1000 XCP back.... it encouraged ppl to burn earlier to get "bonus" XCP

I asked Grok and Gemini if they can pinpoint where the clip came from, and they had significantly different answers, but both suggested 2025.
Given that 2025 was reasonably good for BTC (new ATH), Saylor sounds/looks rather unstable.
Asking "what if bitcoin goes to 10 million dollars tomorrow" is not much different from saying "what if bitcoin goes to 100 dollars tomorrow" — either way, not gonna happen. -

Just to be clear, I'm in the same boat as other long-term BTC holders. A large (too large probably) portion of my wealth is in BTC and ETH.
Not thinking of selling now, but I feel we might have some fun as we ride this roller coaster.
I initially was attracted to BTC as a form of libertarian decentralized money that is free from control by nations and corporations.
Things are now changing, and along with increased gov't regulation and oversight, the major holders are becoming transnational financial behemoths, ETFs, and treasury companies that hint that they have some kind of risk-free way of outperforming BTC or ETH that they hold/buy, but we all intuitively know if they are temporarily outperforming, they must be taking on some additional form of risk.
And if, after helping pump up crypto, the treasury companies end up crashing it (temporarily), it is reasonable to have some fun at their expense. -

Well, just to take a different perspective.....
BTC reached over 50% down from the USD peak in today's trading.
Unless something has fundamentally changed in the long-term appeal of BTC, possibly behind the scenes, this seems like a rather big drop.
It could be we are near max negativity, although if the AI bubble pops, bitcoin could get caught up in that..... -
If AI bubble pops, stocktech caught up first, then BTC IMO sir. -
Yes, Nasdaq AI cos would get hit hardest, but it then tends to pull down mainstream stock indices, and possibly other risk assets like BTC.

You probably should ask in the “ other” counterparty channel…. As issuance is never were rejected based off a mime type under my watch…. You either did an issuance and it was valid or invalid, then what you stuffed in the description was just a text string…. Now it seems there’s some sort of mime-type validation nonsense in there.
Congrats on spending BTC to generate a transaction which is an invalid…. Nothing like wasting Bitcoin for no reason… 🤷🏻♂️ -

yes its an ordinal inscription. I forked the counterparty code base and ran my own node to be able to create a .opus ordinal inscription with counterparty asset . Should help to increase liquidity, huh? Kind of like how adding UTXO binding to counterparty was supposed to bring in a bunch of liquidity and onboard a bunch of new wallets, users, and marketplaces like magic Eden?
Perhaps you’re right, but from what I’ve seen nothing that has been added to counterparty with promises of liquidity has done so, and the community continues to be fractured with usage still way below what it was a year or five years ago🤷🏻♂️
Just my opinion, and not a personal attack, which is the one Rule here… will be interesting to see if this comment gets nuked and removed, or if people are actually allowed to speak their minds when they disagree with what Adam and team think. -

I might be a bit simple but locking assets out of active use on Counterparty tends to suggest a decrease in the activity and liquidity on Counterparty, rather than an increase?

No, your understanding is good…. They are only interested in increasing liquidity on their new kontor platform not on counterparty…. All their promises of increased liquidity if we add UTXO binding to counterparty were false…. Have no more users no more wallet integrations no new marketplace integrations…. And when they determine they couldn’t deliver on their promise, they decided to start an entire entirely new platform, and try to vampire attack, counterparty, and take what little liquidity and users counterparty has and move them to their new platform🤷🏻♂️

You’re not missing anything…. Emblem vaults trading volume is indeed on Ethereum, it doesn’t result in any liquidity on counterparty, or onboarding of new users, etc.
Don’t get me wrong I think emblem vaults is cool and it definitely helped bring attention to some counterparty projects, but it doesn’t directly drive users or usage on counterparty, nor does it bring additional liquidity to the actual platform itself -
Yeah to me an increase in the liquidity on the counterparty network would look like an increase in the volume of XCP traded, and an increase in the volume of asset orders for XCP on the Dex.

Before they crippled dispensers, dispensers were the main way that users were introduced to counterparty, and there was a lot more liquidity flowing through dispensers….. now that users have to download a counterparty compatible wallet before even using a dispenser usage just fallen off a cliff and never recovered…. Despite them promising that UTXO binding would solve all the problems

What would be interesting is seeing the amount of XP dispenses versus the amount of atomic swaps for XCP…. Unfortunately, the way the system was built without a shared swap order book. There is no way to determine when a UTX move is actually a successful swap or just a user moving xcp from one address to another.
Strange to build in atomic swap functionality to counterparty, and yet not put in a standardized order book where everyone can see what swaps are going on and instead make each marketplace maintain their own swap orderbook…
Poor designed decision as well as poor decision for accountability and determining how many atomic swaps and activities is actually happening on the platform. 🤷🏻♂️ -
Of course, it makes sense when you take a step back that the motivation is to extract funds from the counterparty community… then it makes total sense to have each marketplace have their own order book because each marketplace can charge for listing an item for an atomic swap within the marketplace….. exactly as horizon has done.
Truly disappointing that they didn’t build the system in the way that it would’ve served the community best with a shared order book so everyone could see all of the open atomic swaps and match with any of them rather than having a bunch of walled gardens that users must pay to use, and they can only trade within those walled gardens….. also disappointing that there was really no discussion on how to implement this best. They just pushed forward with their pay to play walled garden model rather than having true engagement with the community and asking what would be best for growing the community🤷🏻♂️ -
Seems to me it’s almost like they cared more about getting the UTXO functionality added to counterparty rather than actually getting atomic swaps added abd being used within counterparty in a standardized way….
Once again, if you take a step back and look at what has been layered on top of counterparty with their kontor project, it makes perfect sense….. they had to add the ability for assets to be bound to UTXO’s in order for them to be migrated and used within their kontor project…. So it was more important that they get the functionality in so that they could export value from counterparty (vampire attack) to their new project rather than focusing on what is actually best for growing usage on counterparty..
But what do I know?… I’m just a “toxic dev” 🤷🏻♂️🤣 -
Keep in mind the entire NFT space slowed down in a very similar way over that time frame. I don’t give much credit to atomic swaps for impacting dispenser activity. -

Atomic swaps are not what stopped dispenser activity…. What crippled dispenser activity was the removal of the ability to send BTC from any wallet to a dispenser and get a token back…. They crippled dispensers in such a way that a user has to now first download a counterparty compatible wallet and send a BTC payment from that Wallet rather than being able to send BTC from any wallet…. That single change is what made dispenser usage fall off a cliff and by extension counterparty usage drop off of cliff as well

What is hilarious to me is that atomic swaps were sold to the community as much safer than dispensers….. when in reality if you use any wallet, other than a counterparty wallet, you risk accidentally using UTXO’s, which could have counterparty assets bound to them…. Meaning by simply using a bitcoin wallet, you can accidentally send your tokens to an address unexpectedly and lose access to them…..
And the only complaint with dispensers was that occasionally someone would withdraw BTC from an exchange directly to a dispenser, and then the exchange would get the token…. That is a much lower risk than the risk of losing UTXO bound assets by simply using normal bitcoin wallets
Unfortunately, when I was sounding the alarm not enough, people took the time to understand the risk and the tradeoffs and just took Adam at his word….. and we see where that has left the community…. Fractured community and usage still at all-time lows…. And now the developers, moving on to write a competing met protocol and vampire attack counterparty to try to extract any remaining value from the platform.🤷🏻♂️ -

Of course it could very easily be reversed, but they falsely painted it as some huge bug fix to the community…. When in reality they replaced a component which was included in the counterparty stack called addrindexrs with a third-party component called electrs….
This change not only was used as justification to remove the dispenser functionality we just discussed, but also made counterparty dependent on third-party services which are operated outside of the stack…
The effect of this is that when this service fails and blockstream.info goes down counterparty is unable to generate any transactions…. I warned about this for quite a while, but it wasn’t until a few months ago when the scenario actually happened and counterparty was unable to generate transactions for almost a day that people finally understood the trade-off, and that counterparty is now more fragile than it was before.
The hilarious thing to me is that the whole time that they’re making counterparty more fragile they’re talking about how great the changes are and how they’ll make counterparty more stable🤣 -
Previously, before the change, if one received a counterparty token in an ordinary bitcoin wallet, was the wallet able to recognize the counterparty token and send it to other wallets?

yes, any Bitcoin address could receive a token from a dispenser and then that private key for that address could be imported into a counterparty compatible wallet in order to move that token…..
It was a great way to onboard users to counterparty because they would be receiving tokens in an address in their Noble wallet, but they wouldn’t be able to actually move that token until they learn learned a little bit more about counterparty and imported the private key for that address into a counterparty compatible wallet like FreeWallet… it forced users to learn more about counterparty in order to learn more about tokens versus now you have to already know about counterparty and want to download a counterparty compatible wallet before you can use any of the features of the platform -
It is unfortunate that Adam showed up and just started making changes without actually participating in the community or getting to create an NFT for a project or becoming a user of the protocol at all…. IMO he showed up with a bunch of opinions and no knowledge of how things actually operated within the community…. And force changes on users, promising more users and liquidity and integrations, and unfortunately many people believed him because he originally wrote the protocol…. But he stepped away for 10 years and was not involved in it in any way, and only came back to make changes so that he could extract funds.
IMO he cares nothing about the community or the users, and only paid them lip service to get the changes that he wants in committed🤷🏻♂️ -
He used counterparty as justification to take more venture capital funds to build things…. And then when those funds ran out, he pivoted and started a brand new competing metaprotocol, and continues to ask for even more venture capital funds to fund his development.
Strange how counterparty survived 10 years without venture capital funds just based off donations and kind hearted people funding what they truly believed in.

I think multisend are illusory cheap because it uses multisig and you are locking up sats to write the data that most wallets don’t recover at 0.1-0.2 sats per vbyte doing separate send is gonna be cheaper.

I also think the griefing potential for deploying a dispenser on an address you don't control was bad. Like do you remember these assets: OXBT, ORDIPEPE, OGPASS. Like 19k BTC in volume went through dispensers of these because they opened them on an exchange deposit address or something like that.

it was supposed to be only able to be actived on unused/new addresses. By intended design, no user was supposed to be able to open a new dispenser on a Bitcoin wallet already in use. Or I would have set up so many dispensers on public project donation Bitcoin wallets

I like the idea of setting up dispensers on burn addresses. I was the first to do it :D
it was an experiment. I had intended to build a one way bridge to pegged Bitcoin on XCP. BurntBTC was going to make a website and everything. but that was years ago, I have better projects. This dispenser functionality change made it so that I will probably never follow through with it. -
If you have a green banner collection, add here and you’ll be able to load your collection “cartridge” into the viewer. Trying to make finding the collections easier but also fun 🤩

yep, and I remember adding limits to limit the amount of dispenses a dispenser could have... every problem led to an improvement... Initially dispensers could only be opened on addresses with no XCP history... then we updated it so that dispensers could only be opened if there was no BTC or XCP history... so, both problems were solved and working fine before Adam and team came along and changed dispensers

Not to mention no longer being able to open a dispenser on a new address in 1 tx... and close and return funds to the address in one tx... they killed that and now you have to pre-fund a dispenser address, which is a PITA, as ppl here have mentioned

I never got around to writing it up and sharing it but my favorite methodology was to use electrum to create dozens of wallets, load those with dispensers, and then be able to withdraw income from all of them with one transaction

I think it would make more sense to add the ability to batch commands…. So you could do an issue and then open a dispenser within the same transaction…. Makes more sense than creating a special message just for every possible combination of actions

It was just within a for-profit company writing closed source software and collecting 26 million in VC funds before the company filed for bankruptcy and sold all of its assets for a little over 1 million.

Fast-forward 10 more years and I bet it will be a similar story for kontor…. Simply writing a protocol is not enough, you have to get developers, excited to build on the platform and actually have tools that make the platform easy to use and users who are excited to use the platform….
I haven’t seen him be able to execute on anything other than building the Meta protocol….
Like he built counterparty, but it never really took off after the initial fanfare… then he stepped away… it was only after a couple of years of hard-core developers, sticking around the protocol and building tools to make it easier to understand and use that then it attracted more artists and NFT projects to experiment and use the platform…. Which is why for a little while counterparty saw some success and real usage.
But the parts that Adam were involved with was simply writing the Meta protocol, he was not involved with building the user communities and developers, and getting them excited to build on the platform, etc….
Developers like JPJA, John Villar, Javier, Joe looney, Dan Anderson, myself, and a handful of others, are the ones who are responsible for the majority of the growth of counterparty. They believed in the platform and saw the potential and continued to build tools and projects to realize this potential through bear markets, with no funding, just building because they believed that others would see the potential if they just had the right tools to make things easier to use and understand…. Science n experimenting…
Adam was not involved in any of that, and only came back after 8+ years of absence to try to capitalize on what was built on counterparty and take it over…. And instead, wound up dividing the community and killing usage off…. There is still some usage, but nowhere near what it was in previous years, and nowhere near as much developer or user engagement as previously. -

It’s the opposite, it is now SAFE to open an dispenser on your main address, I often do it.

Yes to be safe new addy, move a little btc to that addy, move assets you want to sell in that address and create the dispenser from that addy to be on the safe side

Because it was not made clear to me exactly what Adam’s plans were, and he made promises to both myself and Robby about certain things that he would not do which he then went back and broke his promises on.
He promised that he would not delete the counterparty Lib repo to Robby, and then he went ahead and rename the repository, which is essentially the same thing.
Also, because I was the core developer at the time, simply means that I was responsible for maintaining the code base. It does not mean that I spoke for all counterparty and when a number of people who I respected were in support of Adam coming back, including myself, I stepped down as court developer and let the other developers that had repository access. Decide what was best for counterparty..
To be clear, I did not give Adam access to the counterparty repository. I simply stepped away and let other members of the community who had access to the repository. Do what they wanted.
It was only after Adam had complete control of the repository that he then changed his tune, scrapped the counterparty-lib, through all of the CIP’s in the trash, and started making changes to counterparty and framing them as bug fixes when in actuality they resulted in loss of function…. -
You are correct you still cannot open a dispenser on a new address in a single transaction and need to fund it with BTC and tokens first…

It is unfortunate how things have become all tangled up.
Currently Adam is the only person with the keys to the repository, is that correct?
It definitely seems like that is a problem for an ostensibly "decentralized" protocol. It seems like there should be multiple people who need to sign off (via passwords?) to implement protocol changes. -
Correct as soon as Adam became maintainer of the repository, he immediately deleted all the other developers from the repository, and hid this action by making it so that no one could see what developers were actually allowed to post to counterparty…. He also removed JPJA as a developer, and decided to make Juan, who had no counterparty developer commits in the repo the lead maintainer, and then a week later, changed his mind and deleted Juan from the repo without any discussion.
This is why I say it’s Adam show now and we’re just all along for the ride because Adam and Oziel who is his right hand man are the only ones with repository commit access -
It also seems very controversial that the same developer for counterparty is also writing a competing meta protocol…. This was raised as a concern to Adam numerous times, but he doesn’t seem to see the conflict of interest.
Same way he didn’t see any conflict of interest with accepting venture-capital funds quietly for developing counterparty and not disclosing that to the community.
It is only after I publicly called him out on this activity that he rage quit this chat and started the other counterparty chat, and only after a number of users pose the same question to him did he admit that there could be a possible conflict of interest, but that it wasn’t really a concern of his and that he’ll always do what he feels is best for counterparty🤷🏻♂️ -
So there are two different potential conflicts of interest that I (Adam) see. The first is the possibility of supporting Unspendable Labs' business over the interests of the community (e.g. Horizon Wallet + Explorer over other wallets and explorers). The second is that the entities funding the company Unspendable Labs could push the protocol development in a way that favors their own interests.
The second question is easy to answer: the existing funding for UL comes 100% from (1) myself, (2) the Bitcoin Frontier Fund (who have made their investment public), and (3) close friends and family (whose names I won't disclose)
The first question is harder to answer. Yes, there's a potential conflict of interest. It's possible that I personally could push to change the protocol in a way that favors the UL business. That's possible in any case where someone who leads development of a community project also runs a business that makes use of that project. All I can really say here that UL and I are much more incentivized to make Counterparty successful than to increase UL's short-term revenue. That's why 100% of Counterparty development is done out in the open, including all issue tracking and prioritization, and why Horizon Wallet is fully open-source. -
Requiring multiple signoffs for protocol changes seems like a very common sense thing that it would be hard to argue against. Perhaps if enough people spoke out, it would not be a good look for him to argue against it.
*But* we have a nearly dead crypto project with a market cap of like $2M, so there probably are not many people interested in spending energy on that debate/movement. -
So no conflict of interest according to Adam with private companies funding the development of counterparty….. and apparently no conflict of interest with writing a competing meta protocol and maintaining counterparty at the same time.
He’s demonstrated that he has no problem, making changes to counterparty that don’t really benefit counterparty like adding atomic swaps, but which greatly benefit his other project kontor…
People can decide for themselves how they feel about that type of behavior…. I for one feel it’s a total conflict of interest and is one of the major reasons for the downfall of counterparty, and the vampire attack that kontor is trying to perform on cp -
Especially not when he has alienated and attacked the other developers who have differences of opinions with him… you’ll notice that a lot of the older developers who have been around for years are no longer in the community.

I have trouble imagining a meaningful number of people are going to transfer their assets from Counterparty to Kontor. Have you noticed anyone express their interest in doing that?
Also, given that XCP is now down 90% since the "return of the OGs!" high point, we can guess that the estimated $1 billion in NFT value that existed at that time may have deflated to less than $100M (also due to the decline in the broader NFT market). -

AFAIK They have not yet launched the protocol, so no one has migrated anything yet…. But as I stated previously, I think it’s a very tall order for that platform to gain any traction. Writing a metaprotocol is easy compared to the other tasks which are getting users and developers excited to actually build things on the platform.
I don’t expect Kontor to see much success, though I do expect Adam to continue collecting VC funds in order to keep funding their development and promising big things right around the corner..
I expect kontor to follow the same path that symbiont did, and just coast along for a number of years on other people’s VC funds, without much success, adoption, or usage. Time will tell. -
