    Hey guys, happy new year!

It’s been a long while since I opened free wallet.

Got a pop up that says a new version (2.0.4) is available for download.

    Is this good? Or ignore?
  • @ryAnon_11 #16625 05:23 AM, 02 Jan 2026

that is one of the chokepoints in counterparty now... they replaced addrindexrs (indexes address balances).. and they replaced it with electrs which relies on blockstream.info.... this is why a few weeks ago when blocksstream.info went down, it also made counterparty stop parsing

Bitcoin Visibility at Scale: New Upgrades to the Blockstream Explorer API

The Blockstream Explorer API has quietly become one of the most relied-on pieces of Bitcoin infrastructure. From open-source wallets to fintech dashboards and institutional analytics tools, it underpins a growing number of production applications in both the Bitcoin and Liquid ecosystems. Now, with a series of backend improvements and new

  • @SamadhiSpeaks ↶ Reply to #16679 #16682 03:20 AM, 17 Jan 2026
Blockstream is a Bitcoin infrastructure company founded in 2014 by Adam Back (CEO, renowned cryptographer and Hashcash inventor) and Austin Hill. The company has raised approximately $651 million across eight rounds, with major funding including a $210 million Series B in August 2021 that valued the company at $3.2 billion.[1]

    ## Ownership and Control

Blockstream is privately held and controlled by a mix of institutional venture capital firms and angel investors. Key investors include:[1]

    - AXA Strategic Ventures (co-lead investor in the $55 million Series A round)[2]
    - Baillie Gifford, Khosla Ventures, and Reid Hoffman[1]
    - Fulgur Ventures (led the $210 million convertible note in October 2024)[1]
    - Kingsway Capital ($125 million raise in January 2023)[1]

The AXA connection has been particularly controversial in the Bitcoin community, as AXA's chairman Henri de Castries also chairs the Bilderberg Group, leading to concerns about institutional influence over Bitcoin development.[3][2]

    ## The External Dependency Issue

The dependency J-Dog described was introduced in Counterparty Core v10.9.0 (released January 2025) under Adam Krellenstein's leadership. When Counterparty removed AddrIndexRs as a dependency—which had accidentally become consensus-critical in late 2023 causing multiple consensus breaks—they replaced it with reliance on Electrum server APIs.[4]

By default, Counterparty now connects to Blockstream's public API (blockstream.info) when the source address isn't in the Bitcoin Core wallet. While this server is configurable, the default dependency means Counterparty's transaction construction now relies on Blockstream infrastructure, creating the exact chokepoint J-Dog identified. When blockstream.info went down recently, it stopped Counterparty from parsing blocks because this external dependency had become critical to operations.[4]

This represents a centralization risk that contradicts Bitcoin's decentralized ethos, as a privately-funded company with institutional VC backing now controls infrastructure that Counterparty depends on by default.

You can copy and paste the address is various counterparty telegram chats and ask whos it is.

    on the same address?

if so, this would mean if someone paid for the most expensive one, they would receive all of them

each dispenser should be on a different address if you dont want this to happen

Hey, does Freewallet support native segwit addresses now?

For some reason tokenscan has trouble displaying the tx, but it looks ok on blockstream.

electrum will only show btc balances, and just in case you were trying to, do not buy from dispensers using electrum (protocol recently changed on that)
  • @mayaspepe ↶ Reply to #16782 #16783 01:47 AM, 30 Jan 2026
That’s what I am looking for, I have only btc on the address
  • @mayaspepe #16784 01:48 AM, 30 Jan 2026
Tried every combination of options: legacy/bio all the rest, still not showing
  • @mayaspepe #16785 01:48 AM, 30 Jan 2026
And for some weird reason it crashes when I try to open the address tab
  • @davesta #16786 01:48 AM, 30 Jan 2026
huh, not an electrum expert but if you see it in FW and can send it, maybe best to create a new address and test it with a small amount

or use another wallet for specifically BTC stuff

.... is it a legacy address? segwit? taproot?
  • @davesta #16787 01:49 AM, 30 Jan 2026
im assuming you see the correct balance on a bitcoin block explorer too?
  • @mayaspepe #16788 01:49 AM, 30 Jan 2026
Mmm that’s a next level question for me, wallet was created in electrum, but in 2019
  • @mayaspepe ↶ Reply to #16787 #16789 01:49 AM, 30 Jan 2026
    Yup
  • @davesta #16790 01:50 AM, 30 Jan 2026
addys that start with "1" = legacy
addys that start with "bc1q" = segwit
addys that start with "bc1p" = taproot
  • @mayaspepe #16791 01:50 AM, 30 Jan 2026
    Ok, legacy
  • @davesta #16792 01:51 AM, 30 Jan 2026
hmm, could be the version of Electrum you are using doesn't like or doesnt support legacy?

the sat/vb fees on the most recent FW updates for desktop are really good now, if you see it on a block explorer and see it in FW you can just use FW
  • @davesta #16793 01:52 AM, 30 Jan 2026
also, if you created the address on FW its most likely because the address is derived from the "Counterparty" word list instead of "BIP-39" list
  • @davesta #16794 01:52 AM, 30 Jan 2026
thats my best guess. xcp has the option to choose its own special derivation / word list
  • @mayaspepe ↶ Reply to #16792 #16795 01:53 AM, 30 Jan 2026
That’s what I am thinking…In the end it should be as safe as…
  • @davesta #16796 01:53 AM, 30 Jan 2026
i still think the PK should work though
  • @davesta #16797 01:53 AM, 30 Jan 2026
instead of the 12 word list
  • @davesta #16798 01:53 AM, 30 Jan 2026
if you havent, try importing the PK itself for that specific address
  • @mayaspepe #16799 01:53 AM, 30 Jan 2026
And it’s not an address where I need to consolidate uxos
  • @mayaspepe ↶ Reply to #16798 #16800 01:54 AM, 30 Jan 2026
    Well, I have only the 12 words😁
  • @davesta #16801 01:54 AM, 30 Jan 2026
log into FW, choose that address, then view your Private Key for that address, then import to Electrum using the PK instead
  • @davesta #16802 01:54 AM, 30 Jan 2026
keep it safe as always, no share, be safe etc
  • @davesta #16803 01:55 AM, 30 Jan 2026
you can use this FAQ from the user manual if youre confused:

im assuming with this question you:

    - logged out of your main wallet
    - logged into a new wallet with a 12 word phrase
    - and specifically picked the "BIP-39" option instead of "Counterparty"

if that isnt working, then i would suggest simply importing the private key of the bip-39 address you are trying to use with FW by using the "import private keys" in the "Adress actions" tab

you can read more about it here in the user manual link below, but it will be important to know what address type you are importing
