Yep... I don't run forced upgrades that launch with a 2 hour activation window... and certainly don't take kindly to the kill-switch that was built into Counterparty quietly to halt all nodes taht aren't running the approved version of Counterparty

so yep, aware we are not running on the latest, and i'll update it shortly.... but, as I clearly told Adam, I will not be forced to run software that I have not tested and which is released contrary to how otehr releaess are done

oh yeah? im on v11.3.0 I think.... never upgraded to v11.4 cuz of the horrible experience and downtime with 11.3.... was planning to upgrade to v11.4 before the activation block... then they came out with this emergency "You have to upgrade now" v11.5 release 😛

Im not exactly sure how the release could have been done better

I actually left the infastructure channel cuz of this nonenses...... it was a channel where like 10-15 infastructure providers were and Adam was there... .I think it was an attempt to replace the old dev channel.... but, its really just a place for Adam to declare new releases and not engage further on it..... I asked for clairification, pointed out I still run about 90% of the traffic for counterparty via tokenscan..... .apparently that didn't warrant a response after many hours... so I just left.

well, the release could have been done better by actually planning it on a regular release schedule.... not just putting out a "trust us" release 😛

anyway.. I digress... obviously I am salty.. and don't wanna tirade unnecessarily.... just know we are in the same boat.... i'm running an older version and won't upgrade until I have tested it properly........

This is what happens when you don't manage things properly and make sure that all your infastructure providers and ppl running nodes are on the same page...... if everyone was on the same page and communicating well.... all would be fine.... but, got a bunch of ppl who don't trust one another,, no real communication, and a "just trust us and upgrade now" mentality in a "Don't trust, Verify" world 😛

I too have reason to be salty because I minted 10 4MB full block inscriptions ans their all gonna land on invalid assets in version v11.5.0 as of currently 😛

Lmk when you upgrade to v11.5 and let me know how it goes..... it supposed to be a quick drop-in replacement.... but I imagine it will be many hours of downtime, rollbacks, and reparsing as it was with 11.3, 11.4, etc 🙂

Hate to tell ya this brother... that isn't happening... you can ask.... but he won't carve out some special exemption for your stuff in the code.... same reasons we don't put whitelists and blacklists in the protocol, etc.

Its not a full loss. They were supposed to be dual assets. Theyre just ordinals now

sucks... but this all could have been avoided with regularly scheduled releases and activations... this is what happens when you rush shit out and don't get all your providers, exchanges, etc on the same release.... this is why we have release schedules and activation blocks.... what you see here is a hotfix release which is only supposed to happen when the network is hard down.... where everyone has to upgrade to get the network back up and working.... if the network isn't hard-down, updates should be scheduled.

But now ive gained a greater appreciation for counterparty updates & the need for better governance....

nope.. that is why making sure everyone is on-board with changes is so important... so everyone agrees on the changse and has ample time to upgrade their node, verify the code changes, etc.

every new release changse the way the rules are written for how transactions are interpretted.... if people don't upgrade, for whatever reason, then we wind up with ledger forks.... right now we have 3 different ledgers in operation... v11.3 v11.4 and v11.5.... If releases were put out on a regular schedule and activation blocks were done on a regular schedule and the lead developer was engaging with the community and acting as a BENEVOLENT dictator instead of just a dictator, then we wouldn't have issues like this.

hehehehehe.... hardforks are undesirable.. the last one was cp 2.0 and cp classic.... and, if you wanna do it, go for it... but you'd have to convince ppl to use your system, convince them to switch over to your version of counterparty as the "real" counterparty.... its all unnecessary drama..... I run counterparty classic, the last release before adam and team hard-forked shit to 2.0..... Anyway, the better question to ask yourself is, why counterparty? if you want smart contracts to play with, you have options.... if Counterparty doesn't want to get on-board with smart-contracts (they wont, cuz Adam is running a competing metaprotocol https://www.kontor.network/ ).... why bring smart contracts to counterparty when he can spin up a new project, stuff smart contracts in it, and then try to get ppl to use it instead of counterparty)

anyway... there is tons of history and drama that has been hashed out.... tldr.. prolly just better to wait for xchain in another couple months... and play with smart contracts on xchain..... and, YES, I have a plan to bring smart contracts to counterparty eventually.... right now updating dogeparty (forked frmo counterparty) up to run on modern language and make it easier to maintain, etc... then in 2027... prolly put smart contracts on Dogeparty.... then it is obvious smart contracts "could" work on counterparty easily...

anyway... I got love for the counterparty and dogeparty communities, whcih is why I still run stuff... but, to me, the counterparty protocol is a lost cause.... changes will be put in regardless of what the community thinks... its been proven time and time again... so, not a community driven project anymore, so not something I am interested in building on..... XChain is the way forward... and Dogeparty will get updated and get smart contracts next year.... then counterparty can just sit on the side and wonder why they don't have them and have no one but their dear leader to look to for answers 😛

yep... sad day when a fork of counterparty will be ahead of counterparty in functionality... but this will be the reality in 2027...... Counteparty doing silly stuff like spending time building AMM into the protocol.... when they could easily spend that same time building a VM which supports anything, of which AMM is just one thing.... makes no sense that they wouldn't just build a VM... unless there is a good reason not to.... which kontor.network is that reason... why build a VM into counterparty when you can spin up a competing metaprotocl (collect VC funds from it) and try to force users to migrate to it (this is why PSBT and UTXO binding was forced into counterparty when no one was asking for it).... it wasn't obvious at the time to most why this functionality was being forced in... but it became clear after kontor.network came out... no way to get tokens off counterparty ledger without the UTXO binding..... and magically that is the EXACT method used in kontor.network to onboard things from counteprarty ledger into their system... blah blah blah 😛

same VM can be bolted on to dogeparty pretty easily.... hence why Javier is working on upgrading the dogeparty infastructure these next few months to support this feature if the dogeparty community decides they want it and move forward with including a VM in the protocol 🙂
