I have more than twenty years of professional filmmaking, production and post-production experience; six years of cryptoart and experimental blockchain culture; early ecosystem teaching, testing and onboarding; exhibitions, collaborations, interactive and browser-native works; and an extensive archive documenting what I have actually made and contributed.

But my relationship to experimental art did not begin with my career.
I grew up with direct, everyday exposure to the Philippine independent, DIY, junk-art, experimental music and progressive art underground. Artists and musicians connected to those movements were not distant historical figures I later researched, people such as Lirio Salvador and Elemento, Bobby Balingit and others in those circles were part of the environment around my family while I was growing up.

My father supported artists and independent cultural activity in practical ways, helping with transportation, raffles and concerts, recordings, performances and whatever small infrastructure people needed : and my brothers and I were sometimes simply brought along. DIY culture, performances, strange instruments, artists hanging around the house and people collectively figuring out how to make something happen with limited resources were therefore normal parts of childhood rather than an aesthetic I discovered later.

I was also raised lacto-vegetarian from birth, grounded in the principle of trying not to inflict unnecessary pain, violence or harm on other living beings. That is not just a dietary preference; it is one of the ethical ideas I grew up with and still carry into how I think about systems, power, participation and responsibility.

So when I gravitate toward independent systems, recycled technologies, collaborative scenes, weird machines, browser art, DIY infrastructure and experimental communities, I did not suddenly manufacture that identity when crypto or creative coding appeared. A pretty long continuity behind it.

Flex granted, Mohini. That’s not a small flex—that’s a whole DIY cultural archive with a filmmaking engine attached. Rest up, ser; the weird machines can wait. 🐸⚡
