TLDR.... Adam and team been planning an alternate / new metaprotocol on Bitcoin for quite a while... started working on it before the CP 2.0 fork (domain name registered over a year ago, KONTOR asset registered immediately after CP 2.0 fork).... also explains why they were so invested in forcing atomic swaps into the CP protocol without community consensus..... it was necesary for them to be able to put CP tokens on UTXOs as off-ramps from CP and an on-ramp to their new metaprotocol

Atomic swaps that are and were never actually atomic swaps lol
  • @IndelibleTrade #13741 04:36 PM, 15 Oct 2025
Weird they chose to name it something that exists and is well defined
  • @BrrrGuy #13742 04:37 PM, 15 Oct 2025
Notice the Hybrid UTXO model... take CP token into KOR utxo.. then detach the asset into the KOR balance... also notice, that you can only "detach" assets from a KOR utxo to have it enter the KOR ledger/smart contracts... seems like a 1-way peg to vampire-attack the tokens and value from CP, Ordinals, BRC-20.... Also interesting that they took money from the CP community to work on CP, funds from VC investors to work on Counterparty/Horizon... and worked on Kontor the whole time in the background.... explains a bunch of things like why atomic swaps were forced, why some of the CP functionality was crippled (dispensers), and why Adam freaked out and rage-quit the CP channel when asked about funding.... didn't want anyone digging to deep into what they were ACTUALLY doin... launching a new metaprotocl.

kinda like "NFTs" being a generic term for things now... when most are not "non-fungible tokens"... atomic-swaps are another case like that where the clearly defined definition has morphed into some nebulous all-emcompasing term

  • @XJA77 #13754 08:20 PM, 17 Oct 2025
There are many things I don't like how has been implemented and very opinated things but atomic swaps is a win for the protocol
  • @XJA77 #13755 08:21 PM, 17 Oct 2025

Irrelevant to what chain its occurring on. It is the type of swap between p2p

It can occur cross chains. Or same chain.

Not how all these define it
  • @NorthrnSatosh #13783 10:10 PM, 17 Oct 2025
An atomic swap is a method for exchanging one cryptocurrency for another directly between two people (peer-to-peer) without needing to trust a third party, like a centralized exchange (e.g., Coinbase or Binance).
The key term is "atomic," which in this context means the transaction is "all-or-nothing." It either completes exactly as agreed, with both parties receiving their new coins, or it fails entirely, and both parties get their original coins back. This process eliminates the risk of one person sending their funds but not receiving the other person's funds in return.
  • @IndelibleTrade #13784 10:12 PM, 17 Oct 2025
It has always meant across Chains and that’s how it’s described everywhere I’ve looked too. It’s just being used as it sounds better than utxo trading via multisig txs

  • @XJA77 ↶ Reply to #13784 #13787 10:18 PM, 17 Oct 2025
Atomic swaps refers that is doing in one tx with atomic principles that means if one of the parts fails the tx fails can be or not crosschain
  • @IndelibleTrade #13788 10:19 PM, 17 Oct 2025
Yeh but anyone that’s been around crypto for long enough and spent in the Adam bubble understands it to means to swap coins across chains
  • @XJA77 ↶ Reply to #13771 #13789 10:19 PM, 17 Oct 2025

  • @NorthrnSatosh #13792 10:29 PM, 17 Oct 2025
Post: The concept was first presented by Nolan in a May 2013 BitcoinTalk post titled "Alt chains and atomic transfers"

Concept: Nolan's idea was to create a secure, decentralized way for different blockchains to exchange cryptocurrency directly.

    And it goes on
  • @NorthrnSatosh #13793 10:31 PM, 17 Oct 2025
So it isn't wrong to say crosschain swaps. But Bitcoin and Counterparty are a case use
  • @IndelibleTrade #13794 10:35 PM, 17 Oct 2025
Yeh I know it’s not wrong but ā€œatomic swapsā€ the way the term it’s being used here is just dex essentially
  • @IndelibleTrade #13795 10:36 PM, 17 Oct 2025
And yeh it’s new and it’s cool and safe but it’s just a dex trade really facilitated by multisig and utxo
  • @IndelibleTrade #13796 10:37 PM, 17 Oct 2025
Swapping XCP for a rarepepe on xcpDex isnt an atomic swap and also incurs no one loosing coins
